Hinged Blast Doors, Sliding Blast doors, Security Blast Doors and Gas Tight Blast doors

Director's statement

Military installations and Petro-chemical sites were the two main areas for the use of blast resistant doors twenty years ago, with global terrorism a very real threat and almost daily occurrence in today's world these blast doors are also being installed in Government and Public buildings, Utility sites, Banks and other "soft targets" Defence Doors Ltd will design, manufacture and install blast resistant doors not only for munitions storage and explosive containment but for protection of personnel against accidental explosions or terrorist attacks against the public.

These blast door services are offered throughout the UK and across the world with Defence Doors Ltd already exporting blast doors and security doors into the Middle East

Blast Door Services

Defence Doors Ltd offer the construction industry and the private sector a comprehensive blast door design, blast door manufacture and blast door installation service supplying high quality UK manufactured blast resistant door sets. All blast doors are designed to the client s exact requirements and specified loadings, each set is supplied with independent blast load calculations to prove the blast doors integrity.

The blast resistant doors are available as hinged or sliding blast door with a range of operating mechanisms determined by the specified blast loading and security requirements. These mechanisms range from very heavy duty 10 point shoot bolt locking hydraulic blast doors through to a personnel blast doors with two or three point panic bar system as Surelock McGill Slimline or single point locking from the DL800 dead bolt system and optional electronic locking on the AC series.

A range of sealing options is available with all blast doors ranging from self adhesive dust seals, bolt on P seals, gas tight rubber seals through to viton or liquid viscous napalm seals. All blast doors can are supplied in a primer finish for site painting by others or a full epoxy paint system. Generally the blast doors are too heavy to powder coat.

Heavy duty blast door

Double plate composite blast door leaf with internal reinforcing matrix welded to inner face of door plates enclosed within door leaf void. Once the door has been site hung concrete core is pumped into the to top of the leaf filling the void creating a solid core plated in steel.

The door mechanism is a manual, hydraulic or pneumatic multi point latching system installed to the safe side of door leaf and contained within steel cover plates. A single hand wheel at each side of the door operates the mechanism for manual operation and push button for automated opening.

These blast doors are designed for on seat loading, the door leaf is over size to the structural opening and bears on solely the wall during positive pressure, the latching assembly takes the negative blast pressure ensuring the hinge assemblies are still functional after blast wave has passed.

The blast doors are designed around a heavy duty angle frame assembly, this structure is designed for casting into the concrete wall and becomes an integral part of the buildings structure generating the structural opening and contains the relevant connection points for hinge assemblies and latching pockets.

This door configuration is designed as a single leaf blast door for extreme blast loads commonly used for munitions storage, munitions manufacturing facilities, hardened shelters and explosive test rooms.

Medium duty blast resistant door

Single plate construction with a solid plate blast door leaf ranging from 20mm up to 80mm thick, the plate thickness is ultimately determined by the blast loading and additional bracing members may be required the stiffen the structure.

For heavy rebound loads a single lever handle rack and pinion system is adopted for manual operation with a two or four point shoot bolt assembly to the leading edge of the door leaf.

For lighter rebound loads a heavy duty three point panic bar assembly can be adopted making the door suitable for emergency exit whilst maintaining its blast rating and blast integrity.

These doors can be designed for both on seal and off seat loading with the latching mechanism and hinge assemblies absorbing the positive and negative pressures.

The doors are designed around heavy duty angle frame assembly, this structure is designed for casting into the concrete wall and becomes an integral part of the buildings structure generating the structural opening and contains the relevant connection points for hinge assemblies and latching pockets.

This door leaf construction can be used as a single or double blast door assembly on munitions storage, explosive manufacturing facilities and “soft targets” including Government buildings and communications command centres

Light to medium duty blast resistant security doors

Double skinned composite blast door leaf construction with internal steel matrix and a thermal/acoustic core. These doors look more like a conventional steel door set with an acoustic/thermal core whilst having the integrity of a blast resistant door.

The door plate thickness, matrix configuration and member size is determined by the blast loads with a door leaf thickness ranging from 44mm up to 120mm.

Internal multi point latching as Surelock Multi slim line available as a lever operation or panic bar option with external lever handle knob – See www.surelock.co.uk.

These door frames are a rebated design for flush fitting doors sets, Designed to be cast into a new structure or as a secondary fixed unit these door assemblies are frequently used as emergency exits and security doors whilst have the integrity of a blast door. The blast doors do not hold fire door certification but can be filled with a material holding fire certification of up to 2 hours.

This door configurations is ideal for CCR buildings on petro-chemical sites, communications buildings, Government buildings and light munitions storage>

Sliding blast hatches and hinged blast hatches

Smaller blast doors or "blast hatches" are available in any of the previous configurations as hinged blast hatches or vertical sliding blast hatches.

For roof access requiring blast protection a range of floor mounted sliding blast hatches are available, solid plate or composite construction these sliding blast hatches are roller mounted designed with an integral frame assembly for on seat and off seat blast pressures and bolt directly onto the flat roof slab.
